What’s everybody watching this weekend? A new episode of Bosch: Legacy Season 2 is now streaming on Amazon Freevee, the popular Jennifer Lawrence comedy No Hard Feelings was recently added to Netflix, and there’s no shortage of horror movies to watch (Werewolves Within, The Mill, Totally Killer, A24’s Talk To Me, to name a few) if you’re looking to celebrate spooky season. But what about our old pal Yellowstone?

As per usual, Yellowstone isn’t airing a new episode tonight on Paramount Network, with the channel showing The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King from 3:00-11:30 p.m. ET. However, the Season 2 premiere of Yellowstone, “A Thundering,” makes its CBS debut at 9:00 p.m. ET.

When exactly does Yellowstone return with new episodes? Here’s everything we know.

Is Yellowstone on Tonight?

Yes, but it’s a repeat. The Season 2 premiere of Yellowstone is scheduled to air tonight (October 29) from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET on CBS. It’s possible, however, that the start time will be delayed due to NFL football.

When Does Yellowstone Season 5 Return With New Episodes?

Long story short… nobody knows. Here’s a brief history of the show’s multiple delays.

  • January 1, 2023: The midseason finale of Yellowstone aired on Paramount Network. It was announced that the final six episodes of Season 5 would debut in the summer of 2023, which obviously didn’t happen.
  • May 2, 2023: The writers’ strike began.
  • May 2023: After much speculation, it was officially announced that the fifth season of Yellowstone would be the show’s last. There were myriad factors that led to this shocking development, with alleged tension between Kevin Costner and showrunner Taylor Sheridan being rumored to be at the forefront of the decision. Costner’s level of involvement when it comes to the remaining Season 5 episodes remains unknown.
  • May 2023: A sequel to Yellowstone, rumored to be headlined by Matthew McConaughey, was greenlit and originally expected to premiere on Paramount Network in December 2023, with Yellowstone expected back in November 2023. Those premiere dates always seemed aspirational at best, with The Hollywood Reporter even noting back in June that a November 2023 return for the flagship show seemed “highly unlikely.”
  • June 2023: The Hollywood Reporter’s Taylor Sheridan profile offered little in the way of clarity. The second half of Season 5 was originally supposed to consist of six episodes, but Sheridan said in his interview with THR that he might make more than the previously reported six. “If I think it takes 10 episodes to wrap it up, they’ll give me 10,” he said. “It’ll be as long as it needs to be.” The sequel series was originally said to include cast members from the current iteration of Yellowstone, but THR wrote that Sheridan hinted that the show could “lean heavily, if not entirely, on a new cast and location.”
  • July 14, 2023: The SAG-AFTRA strike begins

The writers’ strike is over, but the SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing. Production on the final episodes of the series has yet to begin, so the situation remains in flux. Unfortunately, new episodes of Yellowstone won’t be airing on Paramount Network in 2023.

Why Isn’t Yellowstone on Paramount+?

Yellowstone isn’t currently available on Paramount+ because Peacock owns the streaming rights.

All five seasons of the series are available on Peacock Premium. You can also watch select Season 5 episodes on-demand via the Paramount Network website, fuboTVSling TV (the $6/month “Comedy Extra” add-on), Hulu + Live TVYouTube TVPhilo, or DIRECTV STREAM.

Finally, individual episodes and complete seasons of Yellowstone are available to purchase on Amazon.
